Brown Sugar Cinnamon Hand Pies

These are so delicious and fun to make! I purchased pre made pie crust from Trader Joes but you can make your own if you wish. You can also make these into any fun shape you want!

Use the video below to help guide you throughout this recipe:

Ingredients:

  • Pre made pie crust

  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar

  • 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

  • 1 Tbsp. all purpose flour

Egg Wash:

  • 1 egg

  • 1 Tbsp. milk

Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. milk

  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon (plus a bit more)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

  2. Mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour until well combined. Set aside.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk to make the egg wash.

  4. Use a cookie cutter or cut out by hand like I did if you don't have the specific cookie cutter shape that you want to cut out the pie crust. Re roll and cut out all o the shapes you can until you have used up all of the dough.

  5. Place the bottom layer down on the prepared cookie sheet and use a pastry brush to spread the egg wash evenly on.

  6. Place about 1 1/2 to 2 tsp. of the brown sugar filling on top of the bottom layer/ egg wash.

  7. Top the bottom layer off with another shape and make sure to like it up to top the bottom layer perfectly.

  8. Use a fork to seal the edges shut then poke two fork marks on top to allow air to escape while baking.

  9. Coat the entire thing in a thin layer of egg wash then place in the fridge for 10-15 minutes.

  10. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until golden brown.

  11. While the hand pies bake, prepare the glaze.

  12. Whisk all of the glaze ingredients together until it is nice and smooth. Remove about 1 Tbsp. of glaze and transfer to another bowl and add more cinnamon to darken the color. The darker color will be use to create the mouth and eyes.

  13. Let the hand pies cool completely before glazing.

  14. To glaze, spoon the glaze evenly on top. Don't add too much because it will flow easily.

  15. Let the glaze sit for about 5 minutes before piping on the face with the darker color.

  16. Enjoy!
